I’m about to leave for China (Shanghai) on business, and I’m behind on several other projects, so I’ll be pretty scarce around here for two or three weeks. Keep those cards and letters coming though.
P.S.
This will be my second trip to China; I visited Shenzhen last year as part of a trade delegation from Silicon Valley. A remarkable place, with astounding contrasts everywhere. For example, these two photos were taken only a few miles from each other.

The view from my hotel window

Shenzhen’s City Hall Building

Wow. Enjoy!
take care, take many pix to share with us
Good, could you please post some pictures here, I mean most people have never been to China and may want to get a realistic view of China, but the politicied image. BTW, r u going to china to promote Towit or MediaPress? My cousin is working in CCTV and responsible for Video editing, technology, etc.
Have a good trip to China, I want to know if Whimike and mark also go there, there is a huge market for Video products in China now as they converting their stuff to digital!
I got MediaPress from whimike, it is awesome and
Liu – The trip is a photography job (one of my several professions). The work schedule is very full, but hopefully I’ll have a little time to take my own photos too.
Welcome to China. Have a good time here. We’ll be waiting for your pictures.
What a luck! I envy you, come soon.
wow…
you stayed just a 5 min drive from my vacation home in Shenzhen. i live literally across from the city hall building.
I hope you didn’t mind the traffic and honking of the cars too much. i certainly don’t like them.
have a safe trip.
oh, and a serious suggestion for food in Shenzhen
the best restaurant in Shenzhen is the Fung Wong Ping restaurant in the Pavillion hotel. it’s on the backside of the hotel, chinese cuisine, not the english one. if you are staying any where near the Pavillion(sp), i urge you to try it out.
Also, only drink Watson’s Water. it ensures cleaner and more ‘digest-eable’ water. a lot of the domestic waters i’ve had in Shenzhen had me rushing to the bathroom. And never buy water from anyone that is working the streets. there have been complaints as to people filling up empty old bottles and selling them as new.
enjoy the trip! weather should be nice in Shenzhen.
Minichamp – I forgot to write that this time I’m going to Shanghai. But thank you for the suggestions anyway!
Shanghai is a clean and modern city, you should be fine, except too much traffic and zillions of people. Food maybe sweet, and people notorious snobbish, they treat you with respect only when you look rich and influential. If you look like a poor farmer, people won’t even look at you when they speak to you!
Have a safe trip and lots of pictures!!!
oh! lol.
well enjoy Shanghai. i frequent there for summer vacation as well. lots of photography spots, especially the ‘water villages’. you will love it and weather again, should be perfect around this time of year.
but the rule about Watson’s water holds. be sure to buy only Watsons if you have a weak stomach. it’s the golden rule i follow whenever i travel to China.
and a point of interest, what kind of photography equipment do you use? Canon / Nikon ?
minichamp – Even though I brought my own water filter system last time, I still ended up sick for two days, so I’m very careful about the water!
I’m primarily a Nikon guy, although I’ve gone through Leica and Canon periods too. Here’s an article I wrote about my first Nikon.
I am finishing up my first novel on my first Apple iBook – in Shanghai! So while you’re there/here, drop me a line anytime you want to talk shop over some coffee, Mike.
