Behind the Scenes at Pioneer – Video Clip

Pioneer set up Even though the Pioneer presentation was small, it involved quite a few people and a lot of equipment. Here is a short clip I shot during setup. It includes a little bit of the drive through Tokyo on our way to Pioneer, as well as a glimpse into the control room, where you can see the amazing video projectors (made by a company called Digital Projection) which were used at most of Steve’s presentations. Notice that there are two projectors but only one screen; they were perfectly aligned with both projecting the same image. If one bulb went out there would still be a good image.

Here’s the clip (8 MB in QuickTime MPEG-4 format; iPod and iTunes compatible.) I mirrored it on three different servers; pick one:

Cool clip! What was the great music that playing that video ?

  2. Ile – that is a track from a library of royalty free stock music called “Music for Multimedia” which was at one time marketed by Astarte. I’m not sure if it’s available any more, as Astarte no longer exists.

Those projectors must be expensive. Do you know how much Keynote projectors cost ? I know that mr Jobs use HD projectors now, but those must be too expensive at home..

  5. Ile- I believe they cost between $125,000-$200,000 each, depending on their configuration.

  6. Ile says:

Thank you Mike – Is that HD projector price or just “normal” projector ?

  7. That would be HD resolution. Back when this event took place they were using projectors that did 1024 x 768 (IIRC).

Thank you Mike – that was brilliant. We love this stuff.

I think in one of your earlier articles on keynotes you’ve mentioned they use now even 3 projectors (HD) simultanously – alligned!

  9. Ivo – yes, that’s correct; at the big shows they would use two screens, each with three projectors. Mike

    250,000$ * 6 = $$$$$$$$$$. :-)
