This is One BRILLIANT Idea

I just came across this remarkable new set of headphones from Macally which feature a built-in dock for the iPod Nano.

Mtune-1

It is such a cool idea and they’re only fifty bucks. Looks perfect for use on airplanes or while I’m mowing the lawn. I love that the Click-wheel is still totally accessible. I can hardly wait to try a pair.

I’ve noticed that Macally has really upgraded their industrial designs over the years, making nice products for very reasonable prices. In fact, I’m typing on one of their keyboards right now.

Get all the mTune details on their website.

Um, how would you find a new track – take them off, find it, and put it back on?

Love them, and having the scroll wheel on the left (to change tracks) looks like a great idea.

Im not a fan of big headphones like these, but … Great Idea!

the thing docks so you can still get to the click wheel.

I wonder much the Nano weighs? I can just imagine the ‘phones slowly sliding if the Nano isn’t counterweighed ^_^ [Puts a new entry in the "stuff I'd buy if I had the stuff it was for" list ^_^]

errr…. maybe those are just a little bit unsafe no? Someone could just walk past you and pull the ipod out… You might not even notice if its on pause…

  6. Fred says:

They’re nice headphones, but who would wear something that clunky in public for it to get stolen?

  7. I’ve gotta say that you guys must be hanging out in the wrong places, if your first thought is that they might get stolen. Mike

    wrong places like the subway.

Took the words right out of my mouth Mike! lol

This is one cool idea for sure. Though for $50 I’m not sure what kind of audio quality you’ll get out of these… We’ll see. Still, very cool idea indeed.

Seems like a great idea to me. I guess the click wheel is just so you can change the volume or skip songs when you listen to your “lawn mowing specified” playlist. I’m more worried about the sound quality after being spoiled by those shure earphones.

maybe best for a shuffle, as you don’t have so much control over it anyway.

Dude the Nano weighs 1.5 oz. Hardly the need to “counterwight” the cans….

Hmm… take a look at the nano – for example here: http://images.apple.com/ipodnano/gallery/images/galleryimage06.jpg – and then at the picture of these headphones. Note anything strange? The click wheel in the actual nano is not that far away from the screen. I guess this is a rendered image and not a photograph of an existing object (yet).

  14. Bart – interesting point. I’m sure you’re right, that it’s a model.

My first post here. Let me say that you write interesting articles, Mike !….Now, as for the clickwheel thingie, there are other pictures of those headphones, where the clickwheel-problem is obviously solved. Maybe the picture you posted was just a first design-rendering. http://www.macally.com/gif/products/ipod/mtunen/mtunen_002.gif
