Writers Block Live Readers Recommend

I’ve begun tabulating the contest entries and was surprised by some of the data. Entrants who don’t have their own websites could enter by submitting their favorite technology-related website instead. What I found surprising was the suggestions which ranked the highest.

Here’s the top four:

  • The Unofficial Apple Weblog – 17%
  • Think Secret – 7%
  • Engadget – 7%
  • MacWorld UK – 5%
  • I expected to see Engadget high in the list (or maybe Gizmodo), but didn’t expect to see TUAW at the top.

I’ve started to go off TUAW a bit. They post a lot, and sometimes I get the feeling they are trying to achieve a certain quota of posts per day, or that the writer’s get a commission for each post. In other words, there’s a fair bit of crap.

I don’t want to be too negative about the site, that’s just the feeling i’ve been getting.

Lately i’ve been visiting http://www.Macuser.com instead.

Huh. AdSense is back. You had a change of heart?

    3. Smittie – Yes, several people suggested that they didn’t really mind the small Google ads, so I thought I’d try putting just those in.

    4. BJ says:

Yeah, I really llike TUAW. For a site that posts a lot, most of it is what I want to read. That is becoming a growing problem among tech blogs.

I would say TUAW is one of my favorite Mac focused website on the web. Some of the kocks on the site have to do with the so-called “filler” posts but to be honest I rather see that there is fresh content than nothing at all. If it doesn’t interest me I skip it. No biggie.

BTW – Did I miss the deadline for the contest? If so too bad, I actually had a write up about your site awhile back (http://stationa.net/?p=151), in addition to a link on the main page.

Sorry I missed out on the contest.

    6. AH – No, you didn’t miss it; consider youself entered.

      Oh great! Thanks Mike!

Just to say I don’t mind having the adsense adverts as long as they are fairly unobtrusive. Occasionally I do click on them if they are relevant ( I just clicked on one that interested me now).

    9. Smittie says:

      Hey Mike,

Please don’t misconstrue my mentioning that AdSense is back. AdSense is a part of the web today. My brain-filters are pretty good. I will click on things that might interest me in the knowledge that it will also help you. I’d like to see you make a little money off of this.

      Aloha

    10. I also voice on TUAW favor. Probably because they post a lot, I learned so many new things on it that it got a great value for me. But I hate how sluggish it’s site is to load on my slow 33.6 Kbps connection.
